Aadhaar Seva Kendra Name Update in Tripura
Tripura has one UIDAI-run Aadhaar Seva Kendra, in Agartala, and a network of update centres in every district: counters at bank branches and post offices, UTIITSL, and the state-run permanent centres that the District Magistrate of each district operates at SDM offices, RD Block offices and ICDS offices. All of them do a name update on the same rules for the same fee. This page tells you what each type can and cannot do, where they are district by district, how to find the live list, how to book, and what to carry. The rules for the update itself, correction or change, documents and the two-update limit, are on name change in Aadhaar card.
An Aadhaar name update in Tripura can be done at UIDAI's Aadhaar Seva Kendra at 1st Floor, Ava Market, Motor Stand, Shivnagar, Agartala, by appointment or weekday walk-in, or at any bank, post office, UTIITSL or state-run permanent update centre in your district. The state-run centres sit at SDM offices, RD Block offices and ICDS offices under each District Magistrate. Find the current list on the UIDAI centre locator by district or PIN code, carry the original document and your linked mobile, and pay Rs 75.

Key takeaways
- There is no "better" centre. A name update at a post office in Kailashahar and at the Seva Kendra in Agartala go to the same database for the same Rs 75.
- The difference is capacity and queue. The Seva Kendra takes appointments; the district centres are walk-in and quiet mid-week.
- Every centre type does the name update. What varies is whether it does child enrolment, adult enrolment and the exception re-enrolment; check the service list on the locator.
- Centres move. The examples on this page are from the locator listings and are confirmed there before you travel.
- Carry the original. Every centre scans it at the counter; a photocopy alone is refused everywhere.
- If a centre says it cannot do a name update, the problem is usually the document, not the centre. Call 1947 before travelling to another one.

UIDAI's Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Agartala for a name update
UIDAI opened Tripura's first Aadhaar Seva Kendra in April 2022 on the first floor of Ava Market at Motor Stand, Shivnagar, Agartala. Finding the current Aadhaar centre list for your Tripura block on the UIDAI locator
Open the locator
UIDAI's Locate an Enrolment Centre page, or the same tool inside mAadhaar.
Search by state or PIN
Tripura, your district, sub-district and town; or your PIN code.
Read the services column
Look for "Demographic Updates" against the centre; that is the name update. Note hours and the registrar.
The listing also tells you whether the centre does child enrolment and adult enrolment; a centre that lists only demographic and biometric updates cannot re-enrol a new Aadhaar, which matters for an adopted child or a family member without one.

What to carry to an Aadhaar centre in Tripura for a name update

- Existing Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar
- The Aadhaar-linked mobile

For a child
- The child's Aadhaar

Which document is right for your case is on Aadhaar name spelling correction and Aadhaar name change after marriage; a mismatch with another record on name mismatch between Aadhaar and other documents.

Aadhaar centre mistakes made in Tripura
Travel
- Travelling to Agartala for a correction the Udaipur post office does at the same fee
- Going to a CSC that only enrols and prints
- Not checking the locator; the centre moved
- Walking in at the Seva Kendra on a Monday morning for a name change without a slot
Paper
- A photocopy instead of the original
- The wrong document for the case: an affidavit for a change, a document with a third spelling for a correction
- Leaving without reading the slip
- Paying more than the schedule without asking why
Central Gazette before you sit at the Seva Kendra
An Aadhaar Seva Kendra can only work with what you bring through the door. Operators are not permitted to decide that a new name is yours; they read a document and type what it says. So a visit made without the right paper is a wasted morning, a wasted token and sometimes a wasted update. Where your case is a genuine change of name rather than a correction, the paper you need is a Central Gazette notification, published by the Government of India in Part IV of the Gazette of India, and it should be in your hand before you book the appointment.
When the Central Gazette is the answer
| Your situation | Why the Gazette is what works |
|---|---|
| You are going to the centre with no document showing the new name | The operator has nothing to read, and the visit fails at the counter |
| The centre has already turned you away once | The reason is almost always the proof, not the staff |
| You live far from Agartala and cannot make two trips | Publishing first turns three visits into one |
| You want the whole family's records fixed in one round | Each member publishes, then each visit is straightforward |
| Your update is a major change rather than a minor one | A stronger document is expected, and the Gazette is the strongest |
What a Gazette file contains, step by step
A complete file is five items long, and each one is checked at the counter. Preparing them in the right order saves a return journey, because a paper signed in the wrong name has to be redone from the beginning.
| Step | What is prepared | The detail that matters |
|---|---|---|
| Step 1 | The affidavit | Non-judicial stamp paper, notarised in person, naming you, your father's or husband's name and your full address, and declaring the change from the old name to the new one. Below it sits a verification clause giving the place and date, signed again. A minor's affidavit also states the child's date of birth. |
| Step 2 | The two newspaper notices | One Bengali daily and one English daily, identical wording, and the complete original page of each saved with the masthead and date. Cuttings are not accepted. |
| Step 3 | The CD certificate | A short declaration that the CD matches the hard copy, that you take responsibility for any mismatch and for the CD's quality, and that the file on it is in MS Word format. It is a separate signed page, not a line inside the affidavit. |
| Step 4 | The request letter | Addressed to the Controller, Publication Department, Civil Line, Delhi 110054, stating that the formalities are complete and the documents are enclosed, and asking for publication. |
| Step 5 | The proforma in duplicate | The notice for Part IV, worded as the Department requires, signed in your existing old name, with two witnesses each giving signature, full name and address. Two copies go in, not one. |
The signature on the proforma trips up more files than any other item. You are declaring that the person formerly called the old name has changed it, so the signature is made in that old name, and the new name appears only in the body of the notice.
What the papers actually say
It helps to see the paper rather than read about it. This is the wording that goes to the Department, with your own details in place of the brackets.
The specimen form for a minor, made by the parent
SPECIMEN FORM FOR CHANGE OF NAME OF MINOR
I, [PARENT'S FULL NAME], son of / daughter of [GRANDFATHER'S NAME], residing at [FULL ADDRESS, TRIPURA, PIN]

All seven papers, including the affidavit, the CD certificate and the request letter, are set out with their full wording on the Gazette proforma format page. We type the set for our clients and check every spelling against your documents before anything is printed.
How we file it while you stay in Tripura
These files are accepted at a single office, the Department of Publication at Civil Lines, behind the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Metro Station, Delhi 110054, and we lodge yours there from our Delhi head office. Nothing about it requires a trip out of Tripura. The two local steps are yours: an affidavit notarised in person, which cannot be done online, and notices in one Bengali daily and one English daily worded exactly alike, with the complete original page kept from each.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| What you pay the Government | Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor, on BharatKosh only; it is not refundable and it is revised every financial year, so the figure is checked the day we file |
| What you pay us | Quoted as its own line before you spend anything, so you always see the two numbers apart |
| Papers signed by you | The prescribed form in two copies, an undertaking and a request letter to the Controller of Publications |
| Papers you supply | Identity of yourself and one witness, two passport photographs, and the full original page of each newspaper |
| Time | Publication in Part IV commonly 30 to 45 days after filing |
| The copy you keep | Downloaded free from egazette.gov.in, digital since October 2015, never expiring and needing no stamp or attestation |
The whole route is set out on Gazette name change in Tripura, the stage timings and the reasons files get rejected on time, fees and rejection reasons, and getting your published page on how to check status and download your copy. Book the centre after the Gazette is published, not before, and the visit takes minutes. Call 9540005026 or send your documents on WhatsApp, and we will tell you honestly whether you need the Gazette at all.
Aadhaar and Gazette words, explained
The vocabulary of a Tripura name change, explained plainly.
- Proforma
- The typed page that becomes your Gazette notice. It is filed in two identical copies, signed in your existing old name, and witnessed by two people.
- Affidavit
- A written statement you swear is true before a notary. For a name change it records your old name, your new name, your parent's or husband's name, your address and the reason.
- Notary public
- A person authorised by the Government to witness signatures and certify documents. Notarisation is done in person in Tripura and is the one step that cannot be completed online.
- UIDAI
- The Unique Identification Authority of India, which issues and updates Aadhaar. It accepts documents rather than declarations when a name is being changed.
- Aadhaar Seva Kendra
- A permanent Aadhaar centre run under UIDAI where updates are made with biometrics, as against a temporary camp or a bank counter.
- Aadhaar update limit
- UIDAI allows a name to be updated twice in a lifetime. A third change goes through exception handling at the Regional Office.
- e-KYC
- Electronic verification through Aadhaar with an OTP on the registered mobile. Portals use it to pull your name rather than let you type it.
- One and the same person affidavit
- A short sworn statement that two named records belong to one person. Banks, colleges and employers usually accept it; UIDAI, boards, passport counters and recruitment panels do not.
- Community surname spelling
- Bengali and Kokborok names commonly have more than one accepted English spelling, such as Debbarma and Deb Barma. Records that use different forms do not match for a verifying officer.
- BharatKosh
- The Non-Tax Receipt Portal at bharatkosh.gov.in, the only accepted channel for the Central Gazette fee.
- Newspaper notice
- The same wording published in one Bengali daily and one English daily circulating in Tripura. The complete original page of each is kept, because a cutting is refused.
- CD certificate
- A signed page declaring that the soft copy and the hard copy of your notice carry the same matter, that you are responsible for any mismatch and for the quality of the CD, and that the file is in MS Word format.
