How to check how many Aadhaar name updates you have used
Log in at myAadhaar with the OTP on your linked mobile and open Aadhaar Update History (a mismatch found there is handled on name mismatch between Aadhaar and other documents). It lists every update ever made on the number, with the field and the date. Count the name entries. A camp enrolment in school, a bank's KYC correction years ago, a marriage update: each one that went through is on the list. If the history shows one name update, you have one left and it must settle everything. If it shows two, your next request goes straight to the exception route, so do not pay a centre for a standard update that the software will reject.

The third Aadhaar name update: UIDAI's exception route
A third name update is not refused outright; it is moved out of the centre's hands (any centre on the Tripura centre list takes the re-enrolment). UIDAI's FAQ and the 2021 SOP describe the route: the resident re-enrols for the update at any Aadhaar centre with the relevant document, the standard process rejects it for exceeding the limit, and the resident then asks UIDAI for exception handling by calling 1947 or writing to UIDAI's help email with the enrolment ID. People imagine the Gazette is one form. It is four signed papers and two printed notices, and a file missing any one of them waits at the counter instead of going forward. This is the whole set, in the order it is prepared.
