The only way the Government takes the Gazette fee

BharatKosh Fee Payment for Gazette Name Change from Tripura

The Gazette fee is paid once, online, on the Government's own portal, and the receipt goes in your file. Pay it under the wrong head and the Department cannot see your money; pay it to an agent in cash and you have no receipt at all. This page walks you through every screen on BharatKosh from Tripura, the exact purpose and codes to pick, the amount, and what to check on the receipt before it goes in the envelope.

Quick answer

You pay the Gazette name change fee on bharatkosh.gov.in as a non-registered individual user. Select the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Sale of Gazette purpose under the Controller of Publications, New Delhi, enter commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult or Rs 1,700 for a minor, pay by UPI, card or net banking, and print the e-receipt for your Gazette file. Cash, demand drafts and bank transfers are not accepted, and the fee is not refunded.

BharatKosh is the Non-Tax Receipt Portal of the Government of India, the single online counter through which Government departments collect fees like this one. For your Gazette name change from Tripura it does one job: it takes the Department of Publication's fee from you and gives you a receipt that the Department can match to your file. That means the payment must land under the Department's own purpose head, in your name, for the right amount. Get those three things right and the money question is finished in ten minutes from Agartala, Udaipur or Kailashahar.

Key takeaways

  • BharatKosh is the only channel. Demand drafts and bank transfers were discontinued; cash was never accepted.
  • The payment lands with the Controller of Publications only if you pick the Ministry, purpose, PAO and DDO correctly. A payment under any other head is money the Department cannot see.
  • Pay in your own name, the old name, so the receipt matches the applicant on the file.
  • The fee is revised each financial year. The portal shows what it is today; this page says "commonly".
  • Pay only after the spelling on the proforma is confirmed in writing, because there is no refund if the file comes back.
  • An agent asking for the Gazette fee in cash cannot give you a BharatKosh receipt in your name. Do not pay it.

Paying the Gazette name change fee on BharatKosh, screen by screen

Ten minutes on a phone or a laptop. Have your Aadhaar and your payment app ready.

BharatKosh fee payment for Gazette name change from Tripura, step by step
The purpose screen on BharatKosh, where the Controller of Publications must appear before you pay.
1

Open bharatkosh.gov.in

Use the official address only. On the home page, choose the option for non-registered users. You do not need an account for a one-time payment.

2

Depositor category: Individual

Pick Individual. You are paying as a private person, not as a company or a Government office.

3

Select the Ministry

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The Department of Publication sits under it.

4

Select the purpose

Search for Sale of Gazette (PAO Printing, New Delhi). When it appears, check that the PAO shows 042729, Pay and Accounts Office (Printing), and the DDO shows 242722, Controller of Publications, New Delhi.

5

Enter the amount and your details

Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor, as the portal shows for the current year. Your name in the old name, your Tripura address, your mobile and email. The remarks line can say "Change of name, Part IV".

6

Pay and print the receipt

Choose UPI, card or net banking, complete the payment, and download the e-receipt. Print it. That printout is item 10 of your Gazette file.

Screens change, codes matter. The portal's layout has changed more than once. Whatever the screen looks like on the day, the four things that must be right are the Ministry, the purpose line, the PAO 042729 and the DDO 242722. If the Controller of Publications is not named on the purpose screen, stop and do not pay.

The purpose, PAO and DDO for a Gazette name change payment

BharatKosh selections for the Gazette name change fee and what each means
FieldWhat you selectWhat it means
MinistryMinistry of Housing and Urban AffairsThe ministry that runs the Department of Publication
PurposeSale of Gazette (PAO Printing, New Delhi)The receipt head the Department uses for Part IV notices
PAO042729, Pay and Accounts Office (Printing)The accounts office that books the money
DDO242722, Controller of Publications, New DelhiThe officer whose office receives your file
DepositorYou, in your old nameMust match the applicant on the proforma

These selections are the ones on files the desk has paid for Tripura clients; the portal may renumber or rename them in a future year, so treat the Controller of Publications, New Delhi as the check that matters. The Department can only match a receipt to your file if the money reached its own head in your name.

How much you pay on BharatKosh for a Gazette name change

Gazette name change fee by type of applicant
Your caseFee, commonlyNote
Adult, resident in IndiaRs 1,100Most Tripura applicants
Minor, through a parent or guardianRs 1,700Pay the minor fee; the adult fee for a child bounces the file
Applicant living outside IndiaAround Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,000With an embassy-attested deed
Two names, alias lineA small extra on some filesAsk before paying if you carry an alias
Correction notice after a wrong publicationThe full fee againBecause the first fee is not refunded
"Commonly" is the honest word. The Department revises the fee each financial year. The portal shows the figure for today; this page will always say "commonly Rs 1,100" because a fixed number on a website goes stale and a stale number gets a file returned for short payment.

Everything else you spend, stamp paper, notary, two newspapers and our service charge, is separate from this receipt. Package pricing with the Government fee as its own line is on the services page.

What to check on the BharatKosh receipt for your Gazette file

Must be right

  • Depositor name is your old name, spelt as on the proforma
  • Purpose line names Sale of Gazette and the Controller of Publications
  • Amount is the adult or minor figure for your case
  • Payment status shows success, not pending
  • Transaction reference number is printed and readable

Keep for yourself

  • A PDF of the receipt on your phone and your email
  • The transaction reference, written on the inside of your folder
  • Your bank or UPI app confirmation, in case a query arises
  • A second printout, because the one in the file is not returned

The receipt printout is item 10 on the documents required list. Like everything else in the file, it stays with the Department once submitted.

When to pay the Gazette fee, and when not to

Pay it last. The fee has no refund, so it should be the final thing you do before the file is delivered, after the affidavit is notarised, both newspaper pages are in hand, the proforma is typed and checked, and the spelling has been confirmed in writing. Paying on day one, before the spelling is locked, is how people end up paying twice.

There is one more reason to pay late. Every document in the file must be under one year old on the day of submission, and while a receipt rarely goes stale, a file assembled in a hurry around an old receipt sometimes carries other stale pages with it. Do the pages first, the payment last, and deliver within days.

Payment methods that work on BharatKosh from Tripura

📱

UPI

Any UPI app linked to your bank. The fastest from a phone in Tripura, and the receipt appears within a minute of the app confirming.

💳

Debit or credit card

Any Indian bank's card. Keep the OTP SMS handy; the portal times out if the bank's page is slow.

🏦

Net banking

SBI, UBI, Tripura Gramin Bank, TSCB and every other bank on the portal's list. Log in on the bank's page, approve, and return to BharatKosh for the receipt.

Paying from a family member's account. The money can come from any account, but the depositor name you type on BharatKosh must be yours, in your old name. The receipt shows the depositor, not the bank account holder.

BharatKosh mistakes that get a Gazette file returned

Wrong destination

  • Wrong ministry or a purpose line that does not name the Controller of Publications
  • Paid to a different Government of India Press head
  • Paid as a bank transfer or demand draft instead of on the portal
  • Paid on a look-alike site rather than bharatkosh.gov.in

Wrong details

  • Depositor name in the new name, or an agent's name
  • Adult fee paid for a minor
  • Receipt printed while the status was still pending
  • Receipt from last year's attempt reused on a new file

Refunds, failed payments and double payments on BharatKosh

What happens with failed, double and wasted Gazette fee payments
What happenedWhat you do
Money left your account, portal shows failedWait one working day. Portal-side failures usually reverse to your bank. Then pay again; do not submit a file with a failed receipt
Paid twice by mistakeUse the portal's track-your-payment and refund request with both transaction references, and write to the Department with the details. Submit the file with one receipt
Paid, but the file was returned for an error in your papersNo refund. A fresh notice needs a fresh fee. Every reason a file is returned is on time, fees and rejection reasons
Paid under the wrong headThe Department cannot see it. Raise a refund request on the portal, and pay again under the correct purpose

Gazette words used on this page, explained

The vocabulary of a Tripura name change, explained plainly.

Part IV
The section of the Gazette of India that carries notices from private people rather than from the Government. A personal name change appears here and nowhere else.
Proforma
The typed page that becomes your Gazette notice. It is filed in two identical copies, signed in your existing old name, and witnessed by two people.
CD certificate
A signed page declaring that the soft copy and the hard copy of your notice carry the same matter, that you are responsible for any mismatch and for the quality of the CD, and that the file is in MS Word format.
Request letter
The covering letter addressed to the Controller, Publication Department, Civil Line, Delhi 110054, stating that the formalities are complete and the documents are enclosed.
Affidavit
A written statement you swear is true before a notary. For a name change it records your old name, your new name, your parent's or husband's name, your address and the reason.
Deponent
The person who swears an affidavit. For a minor's name change the deponent is a parent, never the child.
Verification clause
The closing paragraph of an affidavit stating the place and date and confirming that the contents are true to the best of your knowledge and belief.
Two witnesses
The Gazette notice carries two witnesses, each giving a signature, a full name and a complete address. Initials or a partial address are a common reason a file is returned.
Newspaper notice
The same wording published in one Bengali daily and one English daily circulating in Tripura. The complete original page of each is kept, because a cutting is refused.
BharatKosh
The Non-Tax Receipt Portal at bharatkosh.gov.in, the only accepted channel for the Central Gazette fee.
e-Gazette
The portal at egazette.gov.in where published notices are searched and downloaded free. Gazette publication has been digital only since October 2015.
Department of Publication
The office of the Government of India that publishes the Gazette, at Civil Lines behind the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Metro Station. It is the only office in the country that accepts a personal name change file.

Paying the Gazette fee from any district of Tripura

The portal does not care where you are. A phone signal in Sabroom does the same job as a laptop in Agartala.

West Tripura Sepahijala Khowai Gomati South Tripura Dhalai Unakoti North Tripura

If you would rather not do the screens yourself, we sit with you on a call, you pay in your own name from your own phone, and the receipt goes straight into the file at Capital Complex.

BharatKosh and the Gazette fee, the questions people search

Can I pay the Gazette fee in cash at the Delhi office?

No. The Department does not take cash. The fee is paid on BharatKosh and the receipt goes in the file.

Do I need to register on BharatKosh?

No. A one-time payment goes through as a non-registered user. Registering only helps if you will make several payments.

Can an agent pay the fee for me?

The money can come from anywhere, but the depositor name on the receipt must be yours. A receipt in an agent's name does not match your file. We guide you through paying in your own name rather than paying on your behalf.

Is the Gazette fee refundable if I change my mind?

No. Once paid under the Department's head, it is not refunded, whether the file is filed or not.

What if the portal shows a different amount from Rs 1,100?

The portal is right. The fee is revised each financial year. Pay what the portal shows for the current year and keep the receipt.

Does the receipt expire?

Not on its own, but every document in a Gazette file must be under one year old on the day of submission, so use a fresh receipt for a fresh file.

Pay once, under the right head, in your own name

We check your proforma first, then walk you through BharatKosh on a call so the receipt is right before the file is delivered. Government fee and our charge shown as two separate numbers, before you pay anything.

Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor, and around Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,000 for an applicant outside India. The Department revises it each financial year, so the portal's figure for the day is the one you pay.

Sale of Gazette (PAO Printing, New Delhi), under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, with the DDO showing the Controller of Publications, New Delhi. If the Controller of Publications is not named on the screen, do not pay.

No. Those channels were discontinued. Only a BharatKosh receipt is accepted in the file.

Print it and put it in the Gazette file as the last item. Keep a PDF and the transaction reference for yourself, because the printout is not returned.
Is the Gazette fee refundable?+
No. If the file is returned for an error in your papers, a fresh notice needs a fresh fee. Portal-side failures and double payments are handled through the portal's refund request.
