Passport Seva Kendra Agartala Appointment for a Name Change
A name change file is lost more often at the booking stage than at the counter. Passport Seva releases slots on its own rhythm, the fee is paid before a slot can be chosen, rescheduling is limited, and a wasted appointment means starting the queue again. This page is the booking side for a Tripura applicant: how the slot system works, the order of application, payment and scheduling, the rescheduling and cancellation limits, what PSK Agartala, a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra and RPO Guwahati each actually do, what to do when no slots appear, and which scheme a change of name runs under. What happens inside Jackson Gate on the day is on passport name change at PSK Agartala.
To book a passport name change appointment in Tripura, register on Passport Seva, fill the re-issue application with change in existing personal particulars, pay the fee online, log in again to verify the payment, and only then open the schedule appointment screen, where PSK Agartala at Jackson Gate and any Post Office Passport Seva Kendra serving your district appear with their available dates. Take the earliest slot, print the appointment receipt, and reschedule within the permitted limit if your documents are not ready.
Booking at a glance
- Order
- Register, fill, pay, verify payment, then schedule; the slot screen does not open before payment
- PSK Agartala
- Jackson Gate Building, Lenin Sarani, Krishnanagar 799001; the state's Passport Seva Kendra
- POPSK
- Post office counters that take the same application; whether one serves your district is shown on the locator and on the slot screen
- RPO Guwahati
- Grants, prints and dispatches; you never attend it
- Scheme
- Normal for a full change of name; a marriage change of particulars may show Tatkal
- Slots
- Released in batches for a rolling window; the screen shows only what is open now
- Reschedule
- Permitted a limited number of times within a year of the first appointment date; the portal states your remaining count
- Missed slot
- Uses one of the reschedules if it can still be moved; otherwise the application lapses and the fee with it
- Carry
- The ARN or appointment receipt, printed, with the document folder
- Free-of-cost visits
- Special drives and Saturday openings are announced by the PSK; watch the portal rather than rumours
Key takeaways
- Do not pay until the documents exist. The fee buys a place in the queue, not a place in the rules; if the Gazette or the IDs are not ready, the slot is wasted.
- Payment comes before scheduling. Applicants who look for slots first and find none often have not paid yet.
- Slots appear in batches. A screen with nothing on it today usually has dates on it a few days later, at the same time of morning.
- Rescheduling is limited and counted; treat each move as one of a small number.
- A POPSK, where one serves your district, takes exactly the same application to the same RPO; travelling to Agartala buys nothing but a different queue.
- Full change of name runs under Normal. If the portal offers Tatkal, read why: it usually means the system has read your case as a change of particulars on marriage.
The booking order on Passport Seva, and why it surprises people
| Step | What happens | Common error |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Register and log in | An account with your email; the PSK is chosen at registration and can be changed later | Registering under a different email each time and losing the application |
| 2. Fill the application | Re-issue, change in existing personal particulars, name; save and submit | Choosing fresh passport instead of re-issue |
| 3. Pay and schedule | Pay the fee online; the slot screen opens after payment is confirmed | Hunting for slots before paying and concluding there are none |
| 4. Verify the payment | Log in again and check that the payment shows as successful | Assuming a debited amount means a confirmed payment |
| 5. Choose the office and date | PSK Agartala or a POPSK serving your district, with the dates open at that moment | Waiting for a "better" date and losing the open one |
| 6. Print the receipt | Appointment receipt with the ARN; carried on the day | Arriving with only a phone screenshot |
PSK Agartala, a POPSK and RPO Guwahati: who does what
| Office | What it does | Do you attend? |
|---|---|---|
| Passport Seva Kendra, Agartala Jackson Gate Building, Lenin Sarani, Krishnanagar 799001 | Takes the application at counters A, B and C: biometrics, document verification, grant decision | Yes, by appointment |
| Post Office Passport Seva Kendra | The same three counters inside a designated head post office, for the districts it serves | Yes, by appointment, where one is listed for you |
| Regional Passport Office, Guwahati | Holds the jurisdiction for Tripura; grants where the PSK refers, prints the booklet, dispatches it, and handles appeals and stuck files | No; correspondence and the helpline only |
| Local police station | Verification at your address after the counter | The officer comes to you |
Whether a POPSK is listed for your district changes as the Ministry opens and closes them, so the answer is on the appointment screen and Passport Seva's locator on the day you book, not on any page written earlier. If one is listed, it is the same application, the same documents and the same RPO; the only difference is the drive.
How passport slots open, and what to do when there are none
Passport Seva releases appointments in batches for a rolling window rather than opening a year of dates at once, so the schedule screen shows what is free at that moment and nothing beyond it. An empty screen at PSK Agartala on a Monday evening is normal and is not a sign that the kendra is closed or that your application has failed. Three things work: check again in the morning, when releases usually land; look at every office offered to you, because a POPSK slot often opens while the PSK is full; and keep the application alive, since the payment stays valid and the slot screen can be reopened.
Rescheduling, cancelling and missed appointments
| Situation | What you can do | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Documents not ready before the date | Reschedule from the portal to a later open slot | Permitted a limited number of times within a year of the first appointment date; the portal shows the count left |
| You want a different office | Cancel and rebook, or change the PSK in the profile before scheduling | A cancel may use one of your moves |
| You miss the slot | Reschedule if a move is left; otherwise the paid application eventually lapses | The fee is not refunded on a lapse |
| The kendra announces a special opening | Book or reschedule into it under Normal | Announced on the portal; watch it rather than rumours |
| You reach the reschedule limit | A fresh application and a fresh fee | The reason to have the documents ready before paying |
Which scheme a name change runs under
A full change of name is processed under Normal. The portal decides what it offers from the boxes you tick: an application that is a change of particulars on marriage sometimes shows Tatkal as available, while a change of name on the Gazette does not. Do not tick a lighter reason to unlock Tatkal; the counter reads the documents, not the tick, and a mismatch between the two is exactly what counter B is looking for. Normal with a complete file is faster in practice than Tatkal with a file that gets held.
What to have ready before you pay the passport fee
Change of name
- Gazette page published and printed
- Aadhaar and PAN already in the new name, the two public documents the rules ask for
- Both newspaper pages
- Old passport in hand, not with an agent
Marriage or divorce
- Marriage certificate or Annexure J signed by both, or the decree
- Aadhaar in the new name
- Old passport
- Spouse's passport if held
The rule behind the two-document requirement is on name change in passport; the marriage route on passport name change after marriage.
Booking a passport name change appointment in Tripura, step by step
Documents first
Gazette and two IDs, or the marriage certificate. Nothing is paid until these exist.
Register and fill
Passport Seva account; re-issue; change in existing personal particulars; submit.
Pay
Fee online; log in again and confirm the payment shows as successful.
Schedule
PSK Agartala or a listed POPSK; earliest open date; check again next morning if the screen is empty.
Appointment receipt with the ARN; keep it with the folder.
What the appointment does and does not decide
The appointment gets you through the door and through the three counters; it does not decide the grant. The Granting Officer at counter C can grant, grant subject to police verification, or hold the file for a document, and a hold does not need a new appointment: the file waits and you supply what is asked. What a fresh appointment is needed for is a fresh application, which is why the folder matters more than the date. The counters, the objections raised at Jackson Gate and their fixes are on passport name change at PSK Agartala; a refusal and what follows it on name change rejected by the passport office; the document list on passport name change documents.
What the booking costs
| Item | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Re-issue fee, 36 pages, 10 years, Normal | Commonly Rs 1,500 | Paid before scheduling; the fee calculator shows your case |
| Rescheduling | No extra fee within the permitted count | Beyond it, a fresh application and fee |
| Missed appointment | No refund on a lapse | Reschedule while a move is left |
| Travel to the kendra | Your own | A listed POPSK usually saves it |
| Our service charge | None for the booking guidance; the Gazette service where a change needs it | Separate line |
Gazette stage fees are on time, fees and rejection reasons; packages on the services page.
Booking mistakes Tripura applicants make
Timing
- Paying before the Gazette is published or the IDs are updated
- Waiting for a "convenient" date and losing the open slot
- Missing a slot with no reschedules left
- Booking a week before a foreign trip
The account
- Two applications and two fees for the same passport
- A different email on each attempt
- Paying an agent who claims to hold slots
- Ticking a lighter reason to unlock Tatkal
Central Gazette before you pay for the appointment
Everything on this page is about not wasting a paid slot. The largest waste of all is booking before the documents exist, and the document that takes the longest to obtain is the Gazette. Publication commonly runs 30 to 45 days after filing, and the newspaper stage comes before that, so a change of name that starts today is not ready for a counter next week. The Central Gazette is a notice published by the Government of India in Part IV of the Gazette of India, and it is the first thing to set moving, not the last.
When the Central Gazette is the answer
| Your situation | Why the Gazette is what works |
|---|---|
| You are changing your name and have not yet published | The appointment cannot be met, so the fee buys nothing |
| You have a travel date and a name change to make | Plan backwards from the publication window, not forwards from today |
| Aadhaar and PAN are not yet in the new name | They cannot be corrected until the Gazette exists |
| You have already paid and the file is incomplete | Reschedules are limited, so publish while a move is still available |
| You live far from your chosen kendra | One prepared visit beats two half-prepared ones |
Making the file: affidavit, newspapers, CD certificate, letter and proforma
The Department does not publish a request. It publishes a notice, and it wants that notice supported by a set of signed papers. Five items go in, and they are prepared in this order because each one takes its wording from the one before it.
| Order | Item | What goes into it |
|---|---|---|
| First | Affidavit | Sworn on non-judicial stamp paper before a notary in person, the one step of the whole process that cannot be done online. It gives your name, your father's or husband's name, your full address and the change from the old name to the new one, and closes with a verification naming the place and the date. |
| Second | Newspaper notices | The same text in one Bengali daily and one English daily circulating in Tripura. The complete original page of each is kept for the file, masthead and date visible. |
| Third | CD certificate | A signed page declaring that the CD and the hard copy carry the same matter, that you are answerable for any mismatch and for the CD's quality, and that the file is in MS Word format. |
| Fourth | Request letter | To the Controller, Publication Department, Civil Line, Delhi 110054, recording that every formality has been completed and enclosing the documents. |
| Fifth | Proforma, two copies | The notice that will appear in Part IV, ending with the certificate that other legal requirements have been complied with, signed in your existing old name, and witnessed by two people who each write a signature, a full name and a complete address. |
Every word in the five papers has to match: the spelling of the old name, the spelling of the new one, and the address. A single difference between the affidavit and the proforma is enough for the file to come back, which is why we draft the set together rather than one paper at a time.
What the papers actually say
It helps to see the paper rather than read about it. This is the wording that goes to the Department, with your own details in place of the brackets.
The newspaper notice, in both papers, word for word the same
NAME CHANGE NOTICE
I, [OLD NAME], son of / daughter of / wife of [FATHER'S OR HUSBAND'S NAME], residing at [FULL ADDRESS, TRIPURA, PIN], have changed my name and shall hereafter be known as [NEW NAME].
All seven papers, including the affidavit, the CD certificate and the request letter, are set out with their full wording on the Gazette proforma format page. We type the set for our clients and check every spelling against your documents before anything is printed.
How we file it while you stay in Tripura
The Gazette file goes to a single office, the Department of Publication at Civil Lines, behind the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Metro Station, Delhi 110054, and our head office is in Delhi to lodge it in person. You do not go anywhere. Your part in Tripura is the affidavit, sworn in front of a notary because that step is never online, and the two newspaper notices in a Bengali daily and an English daily, identically worded, with both full pages saved.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| What you pay the Government | Commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor, on BharatKosh only; it is not refundable and it is revised every financial year, so the figure is checked the day we file |
| What you pay us | Quoted as its own line before you spend anything, so you always see the two numbers apart |
| Papers signed by you | The prescribed form in two copies, an undertaking and a request letter to the Controller of Publications |
| Papers you supply | Identity of yourself and one witness, two passport photographs, and the full original page of each newspaper |
| Time | Publication in Part IV commonly 30 to 45 days after filing |
| The copy you keep | Downloaded free from egazette.gov.in, digital since October 2015, never expiring and needing no stamp or attestation |
The whole route is set out on Gazette name change in Tripura, the stage timings and the reasons files get rejected on time, fees and rejection reasons, and getting your published page on how to check status and download your copy. Call before you pay the passport fee and we will tell you the earliest realistic appointment week. Call 9540005026 or send your documents on WhatsApp, and we will tell you honestly whether you need the Gazette at all.
Passport and Gazette words, explained
The vocabulary of a Tripura name change, explained plainly.
- Proforma
- The typed page that becomes your Gazette notice. It is filed in two identical copies, signed in your existing old name, and witnessed by two people.
- Affidavit
- A written statement you swear is true before a notary. For a name change it records your old name, your new name, your parent's or husband's name, your address and the reason.
- Re-issue
- A passport application that replaces an existing booklet. A change of name is a re-issue, so the number and validity are new and the old booklet is cancelled and returned.
- Annexure J
- A joint declaration by a husband and wife carrying a joint photograph and both signatures, used at a passport counter where there is no registered marriage certificate.
- POPSK
- A Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, running the same three counters and the same software as a Passport Seva Kendra, under the same Regional Passport Office.
- RPO Guwahati
- The Regional Passport Office holding jurisdiction for Tripura. It grants, prints and dispatches passports, and applicants never attend it in person.
- Newspaper notice
- The same wording published in one Bengali daily and one English daily circulating in Tripura. The complete original page of each is kept, because a cutting is refused.
- CD certificate
- A signed page declaring that the soft copy and the hard copy of your notice carry the same matter, that you are responsible for any mismatch and for the quality of the CD, and that the file is in MS Word format.
- Department of Publication
- The office of the Government of India that publishes the Gazette, at Civil Lines behind the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Metro Station. It is the only office in the country that accepts a personal name change file.
- Two witnesses
- The Gazette notice carries two witnesses, each giving a signature, a full name and a complete address. Initials or a partial address are a common reason a file is returned.
- Minor fee
- The lower Government fee charged when a Gazette notice is filed for a person under eighteen, commonly Rs 1,700 against Rs 1,100 for an adult.
- e-Gazette
- The portal at egazette.gov.in where published notices are searched and downloaded free. Gazette publication has been digital only since October 2015.
Booking from every district of Tripura
